Keep your skin healthy while still enjoying the summer sun

The heat of the UAE summer has now set in, which means it's more important than ever to cover up or apply sun cream to protect ourselves.

Our skin works to protect us from harmful ultraviolet radiation, which is why we should use sunscreen to protect us from damaging UV rays. Even on cloudy days, our skin is susceptible to the sun's rays which can lead to skin cancer, discolouration, and wrinkles over time.

Apply and re-apply

Don’t forget to re-apply your sunscreen every two hours when you’re by the beach. Aim for a teaspoon for the face and about as much as would fill a shot glass for the body.

Apply to delicate kid's skin as often as you can, especially if they are in and out of the water as it will weaken with every splash of a wave, or roll in the sand.

Watch the time

Try not to stay in the full sunshine all day if possible. It's especially harsh from around 11am until 2pm whenever you can.

The truth is, we should apply sunscreen every day of the year. It does not matter whether it is summer or winter; you must protect your skin from sun exposure and any SPF helps do this. The results of using sunscreen may not be noticeable at first, but it will pay off long-term.

Replace each year

The longer you hold onto a sunscreen, especially if it has been opened already, the less effective it will be. A sunscreen that is out of date will be less effective and may not offer the same protection against sunburn. so it is important to buy a fresh batch each year to ensure proper protection.
