Some children need a little inspiration when it comes to food

If we encourage our kids to eat fresh food, this will allow them to play at their best.

But getting kids to make healthy food choices isn't always easy. One way to help them understand what is healthy and what isn't, is to get them to pick their own fresh fruit and vegetables.

Shopping with kids

Pop into a local branch of Choithrams and wander the aisles with your little ones.

Start conversations about colour, flavour, smell and texture. Ask them what they like and dislike and talk about how our taste buds change over time.

Sitting with a laptop or telephone is still a great way to begin a discussion about fruit, vegetables and the vitamins and minerals they contain, as well as how good they are for our body.

Faces in the food

Another clever way to help children try new things - especially healthy ingredients, is to make funny food faces or animals from various ingredients.

Try this burger clown

An easy option for lunch or dinner is Mr Clown Burger - full of goodness.

You'll need a regular steak burger (or a piece of fresh, grilled chicken if you prefer); green beans, a cherry tomato, sweetcorn, olives, one egg and a squirt of tomato ketchup or mayo.

Cook the burger, green beans and sweetcorn as you usually would and then ask the kids to arrange them on the plate.
