Get a healthy glow with these simple tips from Guinot beautician Donna Garcia

Got an oily T-zone, or breakouts around the jaw or neck? If so, you may need to detox, says Donna Garcia, Guinot beautician at Cut Above Hair and Nail Beauty Salon. “Too much excess sugar in your diet can result in blocked pores and pimple break-outs. Think about the types of food you’ve indulged in during lockdown. Jaw line and neck acne is generally caused by hormone imbalances, rich foods and wearing a mask in the UAE’s extreme temperatures. Any breakouts can be resolved with healthier eating habits this summer, along with regular skincare treatments and facials to unblock the pores.”

Detox from within

“Water is the best and easiest way to flush out toxins and keep your body hydrated, although there are other methods which can aid this process,” says Donna. “If you can manage it, avoid caffeine and sugary drinks. Drinking hot water helps eliminate toxins from the digestive system faster, especially when combined with fresh lemon juice or manuka honey – this makes for a delicious kick-start to the day while honey has many health benefits, especially for the liver,” adds Donna.

Skin cleansing

“Start body brushing daily to stimulate your lymphatic system and boost circulation,” says Donna. “Exfoliation is vital to maintaining a healthy body. Dry brushing your body each day stimulates the circulatory system, ensuring a healthy flow of blood is encouraged around your body – taking with it the nutrients and oxygen your body needs to thrive. As an added bonus, exfoliation helps to unblock pores and removes the dead skin from the surface of the skin, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath.” For a homemade body scrub, mix olive oil with a handful of brown sugar. For the face try Guinot’s Biologic Exfoliating Gel. It’s a natural exfoliator with fruit extracts and offers a ‘peeling’ effect to leave your skin soft and smooth.

Face up to toxins

Expect a spotty face as your detox kicks in and impurities are drawn to the surface. If your skin is dehydrated, use face oil products. “Taking care of your skin requires work and a good routine. Regular facial treatments such as Guinot’s Hydraclean (Dhs370) help to remove and eliminate any impurities leaving your skin clear and radiant. Guinot’s Hydradermie facial (Dhs470) is another good option for detoxing the skin. It reawakens the skin in just 60 minutes. It encourages toxin drainage, reduces fluid retention and freshens facial features, your skin will appear fresh, smooth and supple after the first treatment,” says Donna.
