About

Whip these up as the perfect handmade gift for teachers, coaches and friends — or for the big man in red!

Ingredients

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180˚C and line a shallow baking tray with baking parchment.
  2. Put the butter in a bowl and beat with electric beaters – or a whole lot of elbow grease! – until soft and creamy.
  3. Beat in the sugar, egg and vanilla and mix thoroughly.
  4. Add in the flour and mix to make a dough. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra flour and knead in.
  5. Roll the dough onto a baking mat and cut out star shapes.
  6. Transfer the shapes onto the baking parchment and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
  8. With the white icing, ice each cookie, leaving a small circle in the middle for a face.
  9. Using the black icing, add two dots to the circle for the eyes.
  10. Using a little white icing to stick, add a red Smartie or M&M to the bottom centre of each circle for a red nose.
  11. Sprinkle some red sugar sprinkles on the top point of each star to make a red hat, and add a blob of white icing for the hat bobble.
